Will more commercials increase viewership?

Will more commercials get people to watch more Canadian drama? CBC thinks so. It has applied for an amendment to its license conditions to be able to take advantage of these rules.
With product placement and embedding promotional consideration right into story lines, like we saw in the opening episode of 30 Rock, should the CBC and CRTC be looking at other incentives? When more than 30% of a program hour is commercial time, aren't we concerned that a lot of channel surfers are going to use the break to find something else to watch.

I don't think that this is the way to go, when it comes to more Canadian programing.
Myself I would use the time to chanel surf, or even just skip over it with my PVR. I find that when the publicity is diversified and not too intrusif that I don't chanel surf as much. If the CBC increases its commercial time, they better have lots of advertisers...

most canadians can't even afford "decent" Cable TV anymore.
The CRTC in general is just a JOKE.!
-nevermind the content.
To CRTC:
Myself and millions of Canadians cannot begin to explain to you how much the ridiculous
over-billing and tyrannical attitudes as expressed by "ROGERS" Cable has cost us,
the canadian taxpayers.
What has happened to the CRTC of late ?
Have they no guts to backup and support the Canadian taxpayers ?
(who by the way you wouldn't exist without !)
-Recently Rogers sent a very legal document to all Rogers Cable subscribers outlining
"Important Notice of Changes To Your Rogers Terms Of Service".
They can now basically bill you whenever they want.
There is almost no leagl arbitration, I doubt if there ever was,
where if you have a problem wih Rogers, contract or no contract, its too bad for you,
and Rogers has the final say,...
Does the CRTC understand the long-term implications of this ?
If the crtc thinks this is all slowly going in the right direction they are wrong.
This kind of Oppression by these broadcasting corporations has to end sometime.
When will the CRTC step in and do something about this ?
Rogers, Shaw, ... (and they really are one in the same) all have been slowly raising their bills
to their customers, and the Canadian/Provincial Gov'ts do nothing about it.
Rogers, Shaw, Bell ExpressVU all these guys are just "MONOPOLIES" that sleep together,
and they know it.
There is no free enterprise competition, there is no improvement in CableTV content ?
Instead, there is simply more TV Ads. The tv commercials alone generate Millions of dollars of
revenue which could go back into less costs for the consumer.
And yet again, The Govts', all of them, do nothing but collect the profit alongside
these filthy Corporations at the taxpayers expense.
The average Canadian has to spend approx. $100/month for Cable TV alone
( have you checked your bill lately ?). Just 18 years ago it was less than $10/month !
I think that alone explains who these corporations really are.
If fuel costs went up that much, we'd be paying over $5.00/litre at the pumps !.
When will the crtc/Canadian gov't "STOP" this greedy rape ?!
Can you (the CRTC) not stand up to these Corporations or what ?
If they(Rogers, ...) cannot provide cheap TV Entertainment then let someone else manage it.
At one time, and not too long ago, all you needed was a SatTV dish in your backyard and,
we had over 365 channels, from all over the world, one for every day of the year.
Ya ya ya, I know, "Technology" is not good if it doesn't benefit the Corporations/governments.
-> I bet that line you do understand.
sincerely,
Rick.
